Jul. 22nd, 2006 @ 02:07 pm I'm back
Current Mood: chipper
well, it's been a year and a month since my last real entry and what an interesting time it's been since then here's a quick recap in bullet point / chronological format

  • Got a new job July 6th working 8:30-5 in an actual office, no more struggling for freelance work. and barely scraping by.
  • My mom and Rick sold the house and moved to Ft. Meyers FL in August
  •  Went to Kings Island with Shane, Dyanna, Kevin, Traci, and Scott in September, never actually saw traci or scott at the park. Tomb Raider rocks, the beast sucks in the morning, but was significantly better in the evening. Son of the Beast Sucked my first ride, but was barely tolerable the second. It was a quaint park, and I'll have to go back eventually. We stayed at Dyanna's grandparent's farm, and had fun exploring their old barn late at night.
  • Dyanna and I went down to visit my parents with my grandmother in December for christmas. It was very relaxing, but my grandmother kind of limited us in what we could do.
  • Dyanna got me a terrarium full of carnivorous plants for christmas.
  • New Years Eve Party at my place. Andy brought Jones Soda's Holiday Gift pack. Turkey and Gravy soda is the most vile thing on the planet
  • Servers at work hacked by hippy ex-sys-admin. We loose over 500 websites, backup servers hit too. I put in 12+ hour days 7 days a week for a couple weeks hunting down and recovering everything. We're able to recover about 95% of lost websites.
  • I ask Dyanna to move out in February
  • Dyanna and I break up a couple weeks later
  • Go to Ft Meyers to visit mom for 4 days around easter. Spend lots of time on the beach drinking.
  • Meet 18 year old intern at work, and ask her out, she says yes . Date gets canceled due to her being sick, she moves to California a week later.
  • Went to see Spamalot, great musical, kind of disappointed that it didn't feature the original cast, but oh well.
  • Dad gets Married to Janet, huge wedding over Memorial day weekend, lots of booze, spend friday-sunday drinking and partying with family. Recovers all day monday.
  • Work sends me to Miami office for 3 days(Arrive monday, night return thursday AM). The first hurricane of the year expected to hit while I'm down there, I was kinda excited wanting to experience first hurricane, but Miami was too far south. Pulled an all nighter Wednesday night when the office went out drinking on the company's dime. Huyen gave me about 50 of her business cards, I told her I'd wall paper my room with them. Then had to catch early morning red-eye flight and get into the office at 9:00 am Thursday morning. Impresses the hell out of my boss that I was still alive, and came into work.
  • kinda got back together with Dyanna
  • broke up with Dyanna again, spent a week feeling depressed and miserable about it, completely over her now
  • wonders when carnivrous plant terrarium will actually grow carnivirous plants and stop being a black dirt terrarium.
That more or less brings me up date from last year till yesterday.

Apr. 18th, 2005 @ 03:24 pm A stalker again or how do these mysterious packages keep appearing?
Current Mood: confused
About a month ago a package from amazon.com arrived. it was addressed to a D.F. and inside was a copy of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Ackbar or what ever the hell it's called. This is kindof strange since I'm really not a harry potter fan. There were a number of people who could have sent this to me since most of my friends have been insisting that they're going to get me to watch it one way or another.

Of course everyone denies sending it to me.

Jump forward to today when there is another similar package for DF. This time it included Kill Bill Volume 1. A much more appropriate choice in movie. I just need to find out who is sending me the videos. If you have any ideas who it could be leave me a message.

Apr. 13th, 2005 @ 10:30 pm Work, work, work
well, it's been 3 dyas at work, and I'f finally gotten int the swing of things. This is really my first time working on a project with a team (there's me and a designer) so it took some adjusting picking up where the last guy left off, and finding out where my boundaries were. My first two days were quite stressful since I was under the impression that I had to do one thing, and the designer was under the impression that he was to do the same thing.

Thankfully we got that sorted out before it lasted too long and there's not much that needs to be re-done.

I also sold my car the other day for $200, which is going towards food, and bills right now. Once I get rent and bills straightened up I'll be looking around for something new.

list of things I need to save up for in order of importance
1) Car(~$2500+)
2) H2G2 tickets(~$10)
3) Six Flags Season pass(~$80)
4) TV(~$400)
5) Digital Camera(~$900)

I should be able to have everything by June Happiness!

Apr. 7th, 2005 @ 09:33 pm A new job take 2
So for those of you who aren't in the loop, I had to quit my last job since I wasn't getting payed, and the one paycheck I did receive bounced. Needless to say I've been job hunting the pst two weeks.

But luck is on my side. I got another gig and start on Monday! I am now going to be a programmer for www.datebillboard.com. To make it even better I'm starting at $25/hr.

Current Mood: amused
While I was waling home from the train station, I ran across this group of girls. One of them offered me apiece of candy(one of those "sour patch kidz" gummy type thing). Dyanna said that they were trying to hit on me, but they were on the illegal side of young. So my question to you is "should I eat the candy?" Everyone gets one vote, and voting ends on april 2nd. Make sure you vote, and tell all your friends to.

Mar. 29th, 2005 @ 12:14 pm Illinios hates me too
Since my car had just been in the shop two weeks ago, and because having a tire blow out on me wasn't enough, my car decided to die on me today on my way into work. I was stopped at a gas light when all of a sudden... "pop, hisssss" and steam comes pouring out of my engine. Fortunately, I'm right near an intersection, so I push it into the lot with the help of an anynomous good deed doer. After letting the engine cool down and adding more antifreeze/coolant, I start it up only to make it two block before the temp gauge is in the red, so I pull into the nearst spot(in front of a firehydrant). A tow-truck guy comes along pretty quickly and offers to tow it for me, so they have the car and are taking a look at it. I'll know what's wrong later today. I have a feeling this is going to be another expensive repair. I'm sick and tired of pumping money into this beast. This will be the third time in a month it's needed to go in for repairs.

If anyone know where I can find a cheap reliable car let me know.

Mar. 26th, 2005 @ 11:01 pm Wisconson hates me
Dyanna's mom came into town yesterday, so this next week will involve doing touristy-type activities in the city.

We started these activities today by visiting the Reiman Publishing headquarters/visitors center in Wisconson (for those of you who don't know they mainly publish cook books) and Dyanna's mom wanted to visit them to get cheap cookbooks, plus they have samples of teh recipies. So bright and early (8:30 am) we hopped in ole reliable(my car) and took off. Fortuantely we make it all the way there without any problems.

So we visit the visitors center, which was under-whelming, and strolled around the town, which was also under-whelming. Dyanna and her mom stock up on cook books, which I guess is a good thing, and then we climb into the car to head home.

We pull out of the parking space and .... thump-thump-thump. we pull out of the parking lot and thump-thump-thump. We come up to a stop sign, and .... oh my, silence, we start going again, and thump-thump-thump. So we pull into the first gas station only to find that the rear-drivers side wheel is flat. It turned out that we made an un-expected pickup somewhere along the way, and had quite a sizeable nail through the tire. This did not make me too happy. So I put on the spare tire and come home.

At least to make the troubles more worth while, Dyanna's mom is making chocolate as I type this.

Also, we were able to swing by Great America. I was expectimg more progress to have been made on the waterpark. It didn't appear that there was much done, there are only very few supports up for slides and buildings and such.

Mar. 17th, 2005 @ 06:30 pm I hate SBC
So, a couple days ago I started having problems sending e-mails from Eudora. At first I thought it might be a problem with the SMTP server, and it would be fixed in a day or two. It really wasn't a big deal since I don't have many outbound e-mails, and I could still send them through the web-based interface.

Then Today I get a call from a friend of mine who is having problems sending e-mails through Outlook. After checking and making sure their settings were all correct, I realized that they were having the same problem I was having. Once I found out that their ISP was also SBC DSL It struck me that the two problems might be related. Thankfully google came to the rescue. After a quick search I was able to learn that SBC decided to block port 25, which is the out bound SMTP port, for all of their customers in an attempt to curb spam. I also learned that you need to specifically request that they don't block your account, so I went ahead and made the request for my friend and myself. Now I have full e-mail goodness going on.

At first I wasn't going to be too upset, I figured they would have notified all of thier customers, and since I don't check that e-mail account often, I missed the notice. Unfortunately they didn't have that courtesy. They decided that it would be all right to block this port without any notification at all which is what reall irks me.

So here's a note to everyone out there. If you use SBC to provide internet service and use a pop3 e-mail client such as eudora or outlook, and discovered that you can no longer send e-mails. Complain to SBC.

Feb. 18th, 2005 @ 09:36 pm A new job
I got a new job last week! I am now a website developer for Anglesey Interactive. When I interviewed I wasn't sure if I'd get the job since all of their websites are done in ASP, and alas, I had never touched that before.

Fortunately Tony, the owner, decided to take a chance with me. I went in, and by the end of the first day he had me writing code for the live site. He was quite impresses with how quickly I was able to pick it up, he hadn't expected to have me working on a live site for a couple days. I was also give a rase at the end of the first week, instead of after a 30 day trial period like I was initially told. It's also very likely that I will be getting another one very soon.

In case you're wondering the sites, that I'm primarily working on are www.justtrainers.com and www.agaveblue.net

In other news a new trailer for Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy was released. It makes me giddy.

Current Mood: amused
My new roommate just moved in and she brought with her the coolest toy ever invented. This toy looks fun as is, but has a hidden surprise that make it even better.

To begin with it consists of two remote control tanks. What separates these from normal remote control tanks is that you can use them to battle against each other. I'm going to keep the feature which further separates them from normal remote control tanks which you can use to battle against each other. You'll have to come over and try them. Let's just say I didn't know that they were still allowed to make toys like this!

Dec. 27th, 2004 @ 03:18 pm The Cheat is not Dead
Current Mood: annoyed
but my computer is. It bit the dust sometime last week. It's either the powersupply or the CPU.

The good news is that that very same day I got Dyanna's laptop up and working. so I'm not going through internet withdrawls. Unfortunatley it's a 133MHz Pentium with MMX Technology!!!! and a whoping 64 megs of ram. So about all I can do is browse the web and check e-mail but it will have to do.

In Christmassy-related-news, my x-mas was ok. I got $125 in best buy gift cards, $50 in other gift cards, and a bunch of cash. I'm thinking that I may spend it on a new TV, but Dyanna doesn't like that idea.

Dec. 11th, 2004 @ 06:03 am A new roommate
Well, it looks like I'm going to have a new roommate in a couple of months (9)...

... Ok, not that I got you that last part's not true. We are probably going to have a third person move in with us at the beginning of the year. For now let's just refer to her as T.

T is a friend of ours from IIT who moved back home last year. She's now decided to come back to chicago and has asked if she could stay with us. After much thought and consideration we decided tat there wouldn't be any major issues, so we ran it by our land lord and he's fine with it.

Of course this will have some disadvantages, such as not being able to leave the toilet seat up, the apartment becoming more cramped, and the possibility of a nuclear reaction going off since according to TMBG, "The nuclear reaction in the sun is caused by estrogen, estrogen, and more estrogen," and I'm only one estrogens away from that. Of course the positives are that I'll be surrounded by two lovely women all the time. and the rent and bills will be split 3 ways instead of 2.

Note to Shane. The two of you will probably either clash horribly, or fall madly in love.

Dec. 2nd, 2004 @ 01:04 am My finger hurts
Current Mood: restless
I was at work the other day, and they aksed me to take home one of the Customer Service computers and rebuild it. So I get it disconnected and loaded onto a cart, and start heading out to my car, when they ask me if I could bungee cord it down. Since it was company property I did so with no hesitation.

Of course everything goes well until I get to my gar and reach down to undo one of the cords, when all of a sudden .... "snap". The end of it catches the tip of my index finger, and the knucke of my middle finger. It doesn't hurt at the time, so I go back in and return the cart, and leave.

Then about 5 minutes out of the parking lot my left hand begins throbbing. I look and notice that my index finger is turning a nice shade of purple and blue. I'm able to ice it an hour later once I get home, and that reliees the swelling and the pain.

Now all day today I've been in pain when ever I tried using my index finger, so I've had to type using 9 fingers instead of all 10. I've noticed I've been missing a lot of f's,t's, and r's from my typing. This is especially annoying when 90% of my wok requires me to type.

That's the end of my bitching for today.

Aug. 5th, 2004 @ 08:30 pm Cars that go oink, boats on parade, and naked neighbors
This entry goes all the way back to last Saturday....

Dyanna and I were walking down State st. Near Grand avenue, when we start to hear this odd sound. I can't place my finger on it right away, so I look around quickly. Seeing nothing out of the ordinary I continue walking. That's when Dyanna says "Hun, look at this!" Whereupon I turn around and discover the source of the mystery noise.
it is a pink VW beetle.

Now this isn't any ordinary VW Beetle. It is painted a pastel pink color, and sticking out of the front of it is a fiberglass pig nose. not to mention the ears on the top, and the tail. To top everything else the car is making oinking noises as well. I should probably add that the owner was wearing a stuffed pig on his head as well.

You might want to stop reading now because the rest of my stories won't top that.

For those of you who are still reading, we saw that car on our way to Venetian Night. Venetian Night is a boat parade, and a fireworks display on the lake. The boat parade wasn't anything special, and the people sitting near the lake all stood, so we had to push our way forward. All of the boats we done up and the theme of the night was musicals, so they all had music playing and people dancing on deck. It would have been better if there wasn't as much time between the boats. They came about 3-4 minutes apart.

The fireworks display at the end made it all worth while though. I had been told that Venetian night has the best fireworks display put on by the city. I must say it was one of the better one I had been too (I've not gone to any in Chicago before though). Dyanna says that it seriously out did the 4th of July fireworks though.

And now to end this post .... I saw our next door neighbor naked(well, topless and in panties). I only got a quick glance, and immediately called Dyanna out, as it would have been something she'd be interested in. For those of you who want to come and see if you can catch a glance, admission is $5.00 no readmittance.

Jun. 22nd, 2004 @ 09:09 am I'm Online!!!
I got my computer fixed, and now have DSL at the apartment. Expect to see me online alot more now!

Also if anyone is needing to upgrade their computer I highly recomend using www.markonecomputers.com. I ordered a new Motherboard, CPU and RAM from them. First they went through my ordet and notified me that my CPU and motherboard were incompatable (I now have a 2.8ghz P4). Then unfortunately it took them 5 more days to ship it out, so I e-mailed them about it. They were apologetic, and told me that it had been shipped out that morning. In addition, they went ahead and upgraded my purchase free of charge and without asking because of the inconvienence. They sent me a motherboard with an onboard soundcard instead of the base model and PC3200-400 RAM instead of the PC2700-333. Over all I'm very happy with them once again.

The only down side of upgrading my computer is I went from 1.1 gigs of ram to 512 megs :(. On the plus side I can now have a max of 2 gigs of RAM.....soon...
